- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1.5 cups granulated sugar
- 0.75 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1.5 tsp baking powder
- 1.5 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 0.5 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 0.5 cup powdered sugar
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract; beat for 2 minutes on medium speed.
- Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
- Pour batter into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool before removing from pans.
- Whip heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Assemble layers with strawberries and whipped cream in between.
- Frost the top with remaining whipped cream and decorate with strawberries.
