- 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
- 6 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until mixture forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
- Roll out half the dough on a floured surface and cut into circles.
- In another bowl, toss apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Place apple mixture on half of the dough circles, then cover with remaining circles. Seal edges.
- Cut slits in the tops to allow steam to escape. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of cardamom to the apple mixture.
