Beef Empanadas

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 package empanada dough
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook until translucent.
  2. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  3. Stir in ground beef, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned.
  4. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. On a clean surface, lay out the empanada dough and place a spoonful of filling in the center of each.
  7. Fold the dough over the filling and crimp the edges to seal.
  8. Brush the tops of the empanadas with the beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm.

Notes

  • To add more flavor, consider sprinkling some cheese in the filling.
  • These empanadas can also be made with chicken or vegetables.
